What i mean is for the first weeks of meditation, you will realize your attention will shift from your breathing movement to thinking without you being aware. You will be aware later. With every meditation practise you do, you start to notice within seconds when you drift your attention.

Once you understand the theory of meditation, you bring the idea to your day to day life activities. When cooking, showering and brushing your teeth, you give it full attention. When your thoughts jump from one story to another, slowly bring it to the task at hand. Daily of doing it, your awareness of self builds up.
How to meditate
Sit down in a comfortable chair or floor or lay down on your back. Breathe into through the nose, hold the breath for a count of five and exhale through the mouth. Repeat it five times. Focus on your attention on breathing in and breathing out movement. Every time you start thinking of something. Bring your attention back to the breathing movement. If it is your first time, you will feel frustrated because you can’t keep your mind still on the breathing. Be patient with yourself. It will take time to learn.
